There are two common defects in a radiator that can lead to a car engine overheating. First, your bad radiator fan could be the reason of engine overheating. In order to help control the temperature of the coolant, this radiator fan blows air over the radiator fins. If the fan comes loose, has broken shrouds, or when the engine is off it spins freely, it cannot perform its intended duties, causing the coolant temperature to raise and overheat the engine. Another reason could be a faulty radiator if you see the radiator fan is working just fine. Leaks, clogs, and broken lines can cause a radiator to malfunction, and subsequently, cause a car engine to overheat.
Cooling System Issues
The vehicle cooling system lines can get clogged or blocked with dirt, rust, or sediment. This inhibits the vehicle cooling system from being able to do its job, thus causing the engine to overheat. This is why regular fluid flushes and replacements are necessary. Another common cause is vehicle’s cooling system leaks. For overheating car engines, leaks in the cooling system are a frequent cause. Also, if you use the wrong coolant for your car, it can have the same effect. Be sure to get an even water-to-coolant ratio.
Water Pump Issues
The water pump is colloquially known as the “heart” of the car since like a heart pumps blood it pumps coolant to reduce engine heating. But a vehicle’s water pump pressurizes and propels coolant through the cooling system, so it plays a major role in a car’s temperature control. If something goes wrong, the coolant can’t make it to the engine, and the engine gets too hot.
Another common reason for overheated car engines is a bad thermostat. A thermostat is a heat-sensitive valve that opens and shuts in accordance to the engine temperature. If something goes wrong with the thermostat, it gets stuck in the closed position and the car engine’s temperature will skyrocket.
Belt and Hose Issues
Loose and broken belts, as well as, burst or worn hoses can overheat the car engines. Belts turn the water pump to cool the engine. If they stop working, so does the cooling system. In the other hand, faulty hose means leaks, which means a lack of engine coolant. This also causes a car engine to overheat.
