Jeep’s 4X4 System – Part 1

Are you an adventurous person who has to reach the high rocky mountains with your favorite Jeep, below you can find info which makes you learn even more on 4X4 system which helps you to reach the peak.

Basics:

From paved roads to the ones less traveled, these 4×4 systems arm you with advanced traction and handling no matter where adventure takes you. Here you’ll learn what it means to have legendary Jeep capability.

The information on this blog is not a model or year specific. Please refer to your owner’s manual for information pertaining to your specific Jeep vehicle.

There are several types of Trac’s we will discussing some of them below. Let’s Gooo!.

Rock-Track 4X4

The Rock-Trac heavy-duty part-time 4×4 system features Brake Lock Differential for superior capability in a wide range of conditions and obstacles like steep hills and large rocks. For more extreme situations, the Tru-Lok electronically locking differential answers the call.

The 4:1 low-gear ratio gives you the torque to crawl over the toughest obstacles with a consistent 0.8 km/h speed for greater control. It also features an electronic front sway bar disconnect for legendary Jeep® capability that dominates the rough terrain in Canada.

Standard on Wrangler Rubicon and Unlimited Rubicon

Usage:

During High Range that is all road surfaces, including wet or snow-covered pavement, sand or gravel

In Low range like conditions requiring added low-speed power, technical driving, and situations when added torque is helpful (e.g., pulling a boat trailer out of water).

Command-Trac 4X4

Thanks to a proven shift-on-the-fly system, rock climbing 2.72:1 low range and NV241 GII transfer case, the Command-Trac 4×4 system provides serious confidence whether off-roading or in slippery conditions.

Torque is split up to 50/50 front and rear and neutral is provided for flat towing. For added convenience and adaptability, the system can be shifted from 2WD to 4WD HI at speeds of up to 88 km/h (57 mph).

Standard on Wrangler Sport, Sport S, Willys Wheeler, Unlimited Willys Wheeler, Sahara, Unlimited Sport S and Unlimited Sahara.

During high range that is on all road surfaces, including wet or snow-covered pavement, sand or gravel

For Low ranges having conditions requiring added low-speed power, technical driving, and situations when added torque is helpful (e.g., pulling a boat trailer out of water).

Quadra-Trac I 4X4

For those looking for full-time, all-weather capability that adjusts itself automatically to the conditions, the Quadra-Trac I 4×4 system is for you. It senses a change in driving conditions and adapts with no driver input needed.

Power can be split up to 48% front and 52% rear to maximize traction. It also combines with the standard Brake Lock Differential and 4-Wheel-Brake Traction Control System for confidence to tackle a wide range of surfaces and weather conditions.

Standard on Grand Cherokee Laredo.

Dodge Viper ACR with 13 Track Records

Dodge Viper ACR is the street legal sports car with a weight of 1538.6 kilograms, 481Kw(645HP) power, Independently adjustable suspension and 771kg down-force at 285 km/hr. 

The interesting thing is all these 13 track records were done without a professional record. Dodge not only broke the previous records bu also broke records of all production cars in all 13 tracks

Its first Track was Inde Motorsports Ranch; Wilcox, Ariz. / Configuration 4 which has 2.20-mile track and it was cleared in 1:33.75 time. And the rest is history!!!

Dodge is the only production which has the 13 track records in the world.

The i-ACTIV AWD system delivers traction and confidence on every type of road surface and in every type of weather. the i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system converts kinetic energy into electricity as the car decelerates. It can then be used to power the headlights, climate control, audio system or any other electrical equipment. MAZDA CONNECT allows you to access the information you need and the entertainment you want.

Safety

Active Safety Technology helps the driver prevent accidents by supporting his or her ability to predict and avoid hazards through visual and auditory alerts. Pre-Collision Safety Technology helps reduce the severity of a collision when one becomes unavoidable. The passive Safety Technology includes the rigid SKYACTIV-Body with ring structure, seatbelt with pretensioner and load limiter, anti-intrusion brake pedal, SRS Airbag Systems, and more. 

The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) reduces accidents and congestion by receiving and transmitting information about the location of pedestrians and other cars, then relaying it to drivers. Although it is not yet available, they continue to invest in this technology in the hope of one day making accidents a thing of the past.

Extended Versions of Mitsubishi’s MIVEC Engines

Previously we discussed the all new MIVEC Engine of Mitsubishi. Today we will be resuming the next versions of MIVEC engines namely

1. MIVEC DOHC 16-valve Engine (4B1)

2. MIVEC DOHC-12valve Engine (3A9, 3B2)

As we know Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC) is the brand name of a variable valve timing (VVT) engine technology developed by Mitsubishi Motors.

Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC)

In the above picture, you can see there are two separate cam shafts riding atop the head. For DOHC heads, the cams can be tied together with a short chain, then have a separate chain/belt which drives the cams, or can have just a single chain/belt which runs the whole thing. DOHC engines usually have a configuration of 2-intake and 2-exhaust valves per cylinder uses a five valve per cylinder (3-intake and 2 exhausts). In most cases, the cam directly actuates the valve without the use of a rocker arm. 

MIVEC DOHC 16-valve Engine (4B1)

All engines developed within this family have aluminum cylinder block and head, four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft layouts, and MIVEC continuous variable valve timing. All variations of 4B1 engine share the same short block. The difference in displacement is achieved by variance in bore and stroke.

The 4B1 engine family is the first to have the continuously variable valve timing MIVEC system applied not only to its intake valves but also to its exhaust valves. The intake and exhaust cam timing is continuously independently controlled and provide four optimized engine operating modes.

The 4B1 MIVEC engine series used in the Outlander, as well as the Japanese-market Delica D:5 and Galant Fortis models, uses the continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing MIVEC system that continuously and optimally controls the intake and exhaust valve timing according to engine running conditions. This system delivers high performance and fuel efficiency.

Continuously controlling the intake cam and exhaust cams independently, this system provides a combination of maximum power output, high fuel efficiency, and a high level of environmental performance by making possible more precise valve control according to RPM and engine load than intake-only systems.

The Mitsubishi 3A9 engine is a range of all-alloy three-cylinder engines from Mitsubishi Motors that were jointly developed with 4A9 engine family. They were introduced in the 2003 version of their Mitsubishi Colt supermini, and built by DaimlerChrysler-owned MDC Power in Germany (previously a joint venture). Cool Right..!

The Mitsubishi 3B2 engine is a family of all-alloy three cylinder engines developed by Mitsubishi Motors. The preliminary version of the 659 cc engine was first seen in the “i” Concept test car introduced in 2003 and used Mitsubishi’s Smart Idling system which turns off the engine automatically when the vehicle is stationary and can restart it within 0.2 seconds. So equipped, Mitsubishi claimed the prototype was capable of fulfilling the “three liter initiative” for gasoline engines, meaning fuel consumption of no more than 3.0 liters per 100 kilometers (94.2 mpg, 78.4 U.S. mpg). Can You Imagine..!!
