Mitsubishi to launch new MIVEC engine

Mitsubishi to launch new MIVEC engine (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control System – MIVEC), which is the general name for all engines equipped with the variable valve timing mechanism developed by Mitsubishi Motors.

Mitsubishi Motors has been focusing for a long time on technologies to control valve timing and amount of lift with the aim of achieving high power output, low fuel consumption, and low exhaust emissions. The MIVEC engine was first used in 1992 in the Mirage, and since then Mitsubishi Motors has been adding a number of enhancements to produce an even better performance. In the Outlander launched in 2005, the Delica D:5 and the Galant Fortis launched in 2007, Mitsubishi Motors adopted a mechanism that continuously and optimally controls the intake and exhaust valve timing.
Now, the all-new MIVEC engine controls both intake valve timing and amount of valve lift at the same time, all the time.
p1

The all-new MIVEC engine with a simple SOHC structure is used for the Japanese-market GALANT FORTIS and GALANT FORTIS SPORTBACK from 2011, OUTLANDER from 2012.

ALL-NEW MIVEC SOHC 16 VALVE (4J1 model)

It reduces pumping losses by adjusting the intake air volume by variating intake smart-mivec_im_01valve lift stroke as well as throttle valves, improving fuel efficiency. This improves fuel consumption including improvement of combustion stability through optimization of the combustion chamber structure and reduction of friction through optimization of the piston structure.

With simple SOHC structure, engine performance is equal to the previous MIVEC engine In addition the AS&G (Automatic Stop And Go) idling-stop system achieves a smooth stop-and-start with minimal vibration along with reduced fuel consumption at restart due to the reduction of air intake volume by the all-new MIVEC system

Features of the All-new MIVEC System – 1

Minimizing pumping loss contributes to very high fuel efficiency!

With a conventional gasoline engine, the intake air volume is controlled by a throttle valve, increasing the air intake resistance when a piston descends. MIVEC engine restrains this air intake resistance by controlling the intake valve lift as well as the valve opening/closing timing simultaneously and continuously. Thus it improves fuel consumption by reducing pumping loss during intake.

Features of the All-new MIVEC system – 2

The all-new MIVEC engine’s SOHC achieves continuous variable valve timing and lift!

The all-new continuously-variable valve system make valve lift stroke, the length of valve-opening time and valve opening timing continuously and simultaneously variable through a control shaft (see figure below).

smart-mivec_im_03

With this mechanical interlock structure, cooperative control of hydraulic variable valve timing phase system becomes unnecessary. Accordingly the new MIVEC system can be adopted to the simple SOHC structure.
Consequently the new MIVEC realizes light weight and compact new engine. The all-new variable-valve structure simply adds an oscillating cam, a support shaft, and a center rocker arm to the conventional SOHC’s rotating cam, rocker arm and rocker shaft. The range of motion of the oscillating cam is made continuously variable by moving the fulcrum position of the center rocker arm through rotation of the control shaft (intake rocker shaft) by an electric motor.

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage Review!!!

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage remains one of the lowest-priced new cars on the North American market. One version of the Mirage hatchback is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gasoline-powered vehicle available in North America.

Interior

Mitsubishi has upgraded seat materials for 2017 and swapped in a new steering wheel and some upgraded trims and switchgear. The most important part of the interior is the infotainment system, which now includes an optional 300-watt Rockford-Fosgate stereo system.

Mirage Interior

The Mirage will also now offer both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a first for any Mitsubishi. The new details definitely make the Mirage less chintzy, but it’s still reminiscent of 1990s economy-car fundamentals.

Exterior

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage has received a new front end this year, which improves its appearance from the bland, generic, anonymous front end it previously featured. It is a huge improvement over the current styling, with most of the changes focusing on the front fascia.

Mirage Exterior

Mirage cuts through darkness and fog with the new fog lights and Bi-Xenon HID headlights. There is a new grille, new headlights, a new bumper and a new hood. It has given a new set of much better looking wheels.

Performance

Mitsubishi offers five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions. The 2017 Mirage is powered by a 78-horsepower 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine. The Mitsubishi Mirage is easy to maneuver in dense urban settings. The engine produces 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque.

Safety

Standard safety features for the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage include four-wheel antilock brakes (front discs, rear drums), front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag and Active stability control. A Rearview camera is standard on the SE and GT, while front and rear parking sensors are optional on all trim levels.

Mirage Safety

Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body utilizes crumple zones that route and absorb energy during high-impact collisions. Strategic reinforcements at key body points complement its side-impact door beams, giving your Mitsubishi a stable, secure base that’s worth its weight in safety.

Driving at Night

It’s that time of year again — when we turn back our clocks and lose an hour of precious daylight. With the end of daylight savings time, traffic and accidents increase at evening rush hour due to the lack of visibility. Don’t fall back on road safety!

Read on and practice these cautionary tips for night time driving.

1. Use Headlights

It is actually a good idea to get in the habit of having your headlights on more often than not. At the very  least, you should turn your headlamps on about an hour before dusk. This makes it easier for you to see as the sun  sets, but also makes you more visible to other drivers

2. Back Off

While it is never a good idea to follow too closely, this bad habit should be avoided during dark hours and  when weather is bad. There are several reasons this is a terrible rule to break during night driving.

3. Keep Your Eyes Moving And Be Alert

The best way to avoid an incident at night is to be watching for lights and movement and keep checking  those mirrors. It is as important to keep an eye out for other cars’ headlights as it is to spot other things, such as    cars without headlights.

4. Take regular breaks

It’s always advisable to take regular breaks when driving long distances, but this is even more vital when you’re  driving overnight.

5. Stay Awake

While many drivers actually prefer night driving when it comes to trips or other long hauls on the road because it is cooler in the summer and the roads are less crowded, it can be more dangerous. Because your body, for most people, is accustomed to sleeping once dark sets in, starting off on a road trip with hours of driving instead of sleep ahead and can be tricky to get your body to agree to. So, be aware of this and plan accordingly.

2017 Kia Picanto Revealed!!!

Overview

The third-generation Picanto will be presented in European specification at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this coming March. Kia has unveiled the third-generation Picanto city car to take on the new Holden Spark. Now in its third generation, the Picanto has adopted more sporty styling inspired by Kia’s potent Ceed GT and Pro Ceed GT models.

picanto-overview

The profile borrows much from the larger Rio, with a simple and subtle look, while the rear of the new Picanto will build on its predecessor’s hooked tail-light design. In GT-Line form, the 2017 Kia Picanto boasts a sporty chromatic identity and a body kit inspired by hot hatchbacks.

Interior

The interior exhibits a vibrant design dominated by oval-shaped outer air vents, a neatly integrated touchscreen-based infotainment system, and two-tone part-leather seats. Leather (or perhaps synthetic hide) adorns much of the furnishings including seats, steering wheel, door arm rests and gear gaiter complete with red flashes or stitching.

picanto-int

The interior changes are headlined by a new young audience-targeting central touchscreen which appears to offer access to a number of services including navigation, while the surrounding hardware has been modernized with a symmetrical look and digital control panel.

Styling

The main changes will mostly be seen up front where the firm’s latest signature ‘tiger’ grille will be found flanked by new headlight clusters with bold LED daytime running lights. Regarding technology and safety, the highlights come in the form of a more rigid chassis and body, Torque Vectoring Brake Based , Autonomous Emergency Brake, and a knee airbag for the driver.

styling

The theme continues into the cabin, where the Picanto will feature a Rio-like ‘floating’ look for its main display screen – still a popular trend across the market. The Picanto has a 15mm longer wheelbase compared with the current model. The GT Line model features a bright red trim piece from almost every angle.

Engine

The replacement Picanto is expected to use heavily revised versions of the existing 1.0-litre and 1.25-litre petrol engines. Kia’s excellent 1.0-litre turbocharged, three-cylinder engine used in the Cee’d may also be a possibility, but whether Kia decides to fit the 98hp variant into the Picanto is yet to be confirmed.

2017-kia-picanto-engine

Power for the new Kia Picanto is likely to come from the same 65bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 85bhp 1.25-litre four-cylinder engines, while low emissions and strong fuel economy will give the newcomer a fighting chance in the hard-fought city car class.
