Extended Versions of Mitsubishi’s MIVEC Engines

Previously we discussed the all new MIVEC Engine of Mitsubishi. Today we will be resuming the next versions of MIVEC engines namely

As we know Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC) is the brand name of a variable valve timing (VVT) engine technology developed by Mitsubishi Motors.

In the above picture, you can see there are two separate cam shafts riding atop the head. For DOHC heads, the cams can be tied together with a short chain, then have a separate chain/belt which drives the cams, or can have just a single chain/belt which runs the whole thing. DOHC engines usually have a configuration of 2-intake and 2-exhaust valves per cylinder uses a five valve per cylinder (3-intake and 2 exhausts). In most cases, the cam directly actuates the valve without the use of a rocker arm.

All engines developed within this family have aluminum cylinder block and head, four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft layouts, and MIVEC continuous variable valve timing. All variations of 4B1 engine share the same short block. The difference in displacement is achieved by variance in bore and stroke.

The 4B1 engine family is the first to have the continuously variable valve timing MIVEC system applied not only to its intake valves but also to its exhaust valves. The intake and exhaust cam timing is continuously independently controlled and provide four optimized engine operating modes.

The Mitsubishi 3B2 engine is a family of all-alloy three cylinder engines developed by Mitsubishi Motors. The preliminary version of the 659 cc engine was first seen in the “i” Concept test car introduced in 2003 and used Mitsubishi’s Smart Idling system which turns off the engine automatically when the vehicle is stationary and can restart it within 0.2 seconds. So equipped, Mitsubishi claimed the prototype was capable of fulfilling the “three liter initiative” for gasoline engines, meaning fuel consumption of no more than 3.0 liters per 100 kilometers (94.2 mpg, 78.4 U.S. mpg). Chrysler Town & Country cars – Woodie Years

In the modern age, we see all stylish metallic body cars with a wide variety of colors. During 1940 -1950, Chrysler Town & Country manufactured two famous Woodie cars with a steel roof.

  1. 1942 Chrysler Town & Country (pre-war)
  2. 1948 Chrysler Town & Country (post-war)

Chrysler’s Town & Country wagon was distinguished by woodgrain paneling on the body sides and tailgate, a feature also associated with competitive wagons such as the AMC Ambassador, Buick Estate, Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, Ford Country Squire, and the Mercury Colony Park.

They made their debut with 4 door wagon body styles with 8 passengers. The wagon was front engine, rear wheel drive layout (FR Layout), a traditional automobile layout for most of the cars during those times.

It used the roof of the concurrent Chrysler Imperial 4-door 8-passenger limousine, which led to a rear loading configuration with wooden double doors (also called ‘Barrel Back‘ doors) that opened out from the center beneath the fixed backlight (rear window). We are particularly drawn to the pre-war fastback sedans, which themselves played a part in replacing wood with metal. They were the first Woodie long-roofs to have an all-steel roof.

The 1942 model year Town & Country had an abbreviated production run due to the World War II. Less than one-thousand units had been produced since the vehicle’s introduction a year earlier.

During 1946 Town & Country nameplate returned with 4-door sedan and 2-door convertible. Chrysler built seven pre-production Town & Country cars of 2-door hardtop body style during the 1946 model year and went into full production during four model years later (1950).

The 1948 Chrysler Town & Country had 2-door convertible from a 4-door sedan with just very few improvements. It had the same front engine, rear wheel drive layout (FR Layout). It was quite relative to Chrysler Imperial, Chrysler Windsor, and DeSoto Custom.

The 1950 Town & Country 2-door hardtop was the last true original Woodie offering, ever, during its one-model-year production run.

The 1950 Crosley Hot Shot is often given credit for the first production disc brakes but the Chrysler Imperial Crown actually had them first as standard equipment at the start of the 1949 model year. Multiple Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) seamlessly work together to enhance the driving experience. Traffic Safety Administration conservatively estimates that police-reported crashes are the direct result of driver fatigue each year. This results in more injuries and even deaths. A Kia first is the new Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system to help combat distracted or drowsy driving.  The system monitors a number of inputs from the vehicle and the driver and will sound a warning chime and display a graphic in the instrument binnacle that it’s time to take a break from driving if it senses the driver’s attention level has been significantly reduced.

A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system designed to reduce the severity of a collision. It uses radar (all-weather) and sometimes laser (LIDAR) and camera (employing image recognition) to detect an imminent crash. GPS sensors can detect fixed dangers such as approaching stop signs through a location database. Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning to the driver when there is an imminent collision or take action autonomously without any driver input, by Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). Collision avoidance by braking is appropriate at low vehicle speeds (e.g. below 50 km/h), while collision avoidance by steering is appropriate at higher vehicle speeds. Cars with collision avoidance may also be equipped with adaptive cruise control, and use the same forward-looking sensors.

The Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS) is an assistance system and does not relieve the driver from his/her responsibility to safely operate the vehicle at any time. The driver still has to adapt his/her driving behaviour to his/her personal driving capabilities, to the legal requirements and to the overall road and traffic conditions. Rear cross traffic alert is designed to warn you of cars that are entering your backing path. You may not be able to see these cars as quickly as your rear cross traffic alert system can on a road or in a parking lot. Sensors around the rear of the car detect vehicles approaching from the left and right. A warning tone and flashing light on the mirrors or dashboard alert the driver to stop. These systems only work when you are backing straight out of a space or driveway. They don’t work in angled parking spots.

Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

It actively monitors the vehicle’s intended lane and will alert the driver with an audible warning along with providing steering input to help maintain the vehicle’s position.

Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC)

A radar sensor at the front of the car monitors the gap between the vehicle ahead. The system automatically applies the brakes to maintain a Pre-determined ‘safe’ distance and will even bring the vehicle to a complete stop, if necessary. The system will initiate take-off when car ahead moves on. Set and maintain a constant speed, and simply step on the brake or accelerator when you want to disengage.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer – Be Confident in Your Own Lane!!!

The Lancer sedan is Mitsubishi’s long-running compact sedan that sits above the Mirage G4 in the automaker’s lineup.

Interior

The interior matches the exterior in terms of expressiveness and purpose beginning with the driver-oriented cockpit. Interior revisions are a bit more noteworthy, with the 3 adopting a steering wheel and electric parking brake that frees up center-console storage space, and some nicer trim for the door panels. Pedals are symmetrically laid out to the left and right of the driver’s center-line for further precision and comfort.

A heated steering wheel is a new option, while upholstery upgrades include nicer fabric for the standard cloth interior, new espresso-colored accents for the optional black leather interior, and parchment-colored leather replacing the previous almond shade.

Exterior

The reshaped grille and headlights present a slightly more aggressive face to the world, and LED headlights are newly available on higher-trim models. A new rear bumper appears a bit cleaner and crisper than old one. The 18-inch wheels available on the 3’s s trim also are slightly different, although the 16-inch wheels and hubcaps on lower-spec i versions remain the same.
